When in Rome...

It's going to win awards because most anything Danger Mouse touches turns to gold. You may remember him as one half of the duo that created Broken Bells. But the beauty of this acclaimed producer is that he doesn't just do what's been done before. He challenges himself and takes giant leaps in craftily calculated directions.  I highly recommend the $5 download this month from Amazon. You won't regret it. Did I mention Norah Jones sings on a couple tracks? My personal favorite is the catchy "Two Against One" sung by Jack White.

EP Friday

Thought today would be a great day to try something new. Here's an EP for a quick tour through my current emotional state:

Christians in Black by Rogue Wave
How It Ends by DeVotchKa
Darkmatter by Andrew Bird
Blame It On The Tetons by Modest Mouse

And a co-worker sent this picture to me of the view from his back porch. I can only imagine that this would be a perfect spot to listen to the above and reflect on all the positives in my life right now.

Meet Justin Vernon of Bon Iver

I've been on a roll finding sweet jams of people that have been around for ages. Justin Vernon hasn't been around as long as Ray LaMontagne, but he's just as amazing. Heavy lyrics in beautiful melodies that drift through your senses and tantalize your ear drums. Am I crazy or is this song really ridiculously good?

How have I not heard of Ray LaMontagne?

So this is for my sister Jill. The song below from Ray LaMontagne reminds me of something she would have wanted to play at her wedding. It would have fit in perfectly. How I've never heard of this artist before is astonishing, but I can't say it hasn't happened before (Grizzly Bear, Phoenix just to name a couple). I have to listen to more songs from this artist to find out if he's a keeper, but if anything, I've found at least one more song to add to future mixtapes.

Lungs like Apple and O

Florence + the Machine was recently recommended to me by a friend of a friend and ever since I created a F+TM Pandora station, I've been listening non-stop. Her debut album, Lungs, showcases her amazing pipes and they rival some of my favorites, like Fiona Apple and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Crazy that such petite women can belt it out louder than Josh Groban on steroids. Oh, and the best part? She's a redhead. Below is one song that will show you what I'm talking about, but also check out I'm Not Calling You a Liar, Howl, or Cosmic Love.

Anya Marina: badass vocalist / San Diego homegirl

I used to listen Anya on 94.9, then she went and got all famous. Now her songs are showing up on TV show soundtracks and even in one of the Twilight movies. Congrats Anya! San Diego loves you.
